In class, We are talking about how advertizing affects you, I noticed that we are being affected bu advertizing everywhere, it is funny how companies pay millions of dollars and they are not hundred percent sure that  it will affect us or make us buy it. Advertizing affects a lot of people, for example, the basketball players think that they cant play without a Jordan shoe, Soccer players cannot play without Messi's shoes, Even though any shoe can do the job because you have the skills, not the shoes. But in the advertizing it shows that you play good because of your shoes. For Example, Nike Advertisement shows that Nike Shoes makes you run faster and score goals, because people believe the advertizing, when they get the shoes, they actually run faster or believe that they run faster because of the shoes,Even though they are running in the same speed or probably slower.

I agree with Jerry Seinfeld's speech at the advertisement award ceremony, where he was ranting about advertisement executives were blatantly lying and exaggerating their products.
I watched a McDonalds ad. I think the "reptilian hot buttons" that McDonalds is targeting hungry people who are looking to get a burger fast and cheap. Of course the burgers in the commercials look much better than they do in real life.

Apple Pay

Apple has created many new features on the iPhone. Apple Pay is one special feature that is changing the way people make payments in stores. Anyone can put all of their credit and debit cards on the device and payments happen through a single touch. Apple is striving for everyone using it to feel comfortable and secure and know that it is simple and private. I think that technology like these smart phones are influencing our everyday lives in more and more ways as time progresses.

The Racial Prism

Just because we have a black president doesn't mean our racial problems are over. This country was built on racism and the murder of anyone who wasn't white. Clearly it's going to affect us for a long time. Luckily Groves is a pretty accepting community. There are a few exceptions, but it usually doesn't have to do with race.
Self segregation can definitely be seen in the hall and in the cafeteria but that's expected everywhere. Your closest friends are gonna be people like you who you can relate to. The biggest racial problem I do see at Groves is just ignorance about whats happening in our country. And some white people not wanting to accept that white privilege is a thing and reverse racism isn't.

American Sniper

Last weekend Clint Eastwoods newest movie American Sniper based on Chris Kyle, a Navy SEAL credited with the most kills in American military history. The movie deals mostly with the enormous amount of pressures during the heat of battle, and how doing what needs to be done takes a great emotional and psychological toll on a person. Chris Kyle overcame PTSD through helping fellow veterans battle it. Michael Moore commented on the film that snipers were cowards and were not hero's. I strongly disagree with that and believe that Chris Kyle and countless other snipers save thousands of lives doing what they do and are hero's.

On a bright, clear morning in April 2013, two professional poker players from California were heading west on Interstate 80 in rural Iowa when they were stopped by two Iowa State Troopers. The cop said that they stopped them because he turned without flashing his blinkers. They had $100,000 to play poker with them but the cops didn't believe that and took the money and just gave him a traffic warning. The cop said that he thought that they were using the money to buy drugs because the guy had marihuana in the car, but the marihuana  was medical marihuana. the police took their money and left. it is a big case now and there is investigation that is happening.  For more information, check CNN

There is Athreat on Japan from Isis. ISIS kidnapped 2 Japanese men and they will kill them if they didnt receive two hundred million dollars by Friday. Japan says it has had no contact with ISIS as the Islamic militant group's deadline nears for Tokyo to pay a $200 million ransom to spare the lives of two hostages. Japanese government are doing their best to save the two hostages. Suga, a Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary said that  The government of Jordan has told Japan it will do as much as possible to try to secure the release of Goto and Yukawa, the two hostages. I think that ISIS should be stopped as soon as possible because they are expanding and harming more and more countries. For more information, check out CNN.

Jusitce Department Clearing Charges for Ferguson Police Officer, Darren Wilson

The United States Justice Department has just recently decided to close the investigation involving Michael Brown's death and clear the police officer, Darren Wilson's charges. The FBI investigation found no evidence against Darren Wilson and the Justice department has made no comment about this. I find it interesting that the Justice Department has declined comment.

I think everyone is going to have different reactions and opinions about this decision. The case itself has led to so many protests in Ferguson. A lot of people overreacted to this case because they believed that Wilson shot Brown due to his race. Some think that cops should not abuse their power in these terrible ways. I believe that the police should be protecting people, not harming them, especially when they're innocent.

"Wilson, who said he was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot Brown, resigned from the Ferguson police force in November, citing threats against fellow officers after the grand jury decision."  Article

Mean Girls reflection

The movie Mean Girls is about a girls life in high school and how a girl is suppose to look and act like.  For example Kate was suppose to bring down the group of plastics but in the process of doing that she became a mean girl and lost her day 1 friends because of it.  This movie shows that anybody can be beautiful no matter how they look.

visual data post

This article is basically about how people view stats. Like for an example people will say (this quarterback throws lots of touchdowns, then some somebody would say well he throws too many interceptions though. Also about how good stats aren’t meant to eradicate classic storylines or debates, but to lend context to them. He used Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning as an example. He said that when both quaterbacks played the Bills they had terrible games statically, but the newspaper of Colorado said The broncos won despite Manning's worst game as a Bronco. But the newspaper in Wisconsin said how few interceptions Aaron Rodgers as on the season.

MLK

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American pastor and the leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement. He is one of the most influential people in history today. I think that he is incredibly inspirational, he stood up for what he believed in and made the most of it during his time. I think that everyone should be treated equally and that race, gender, and age should not play a role in determining how opportunities get distributed. Everyone deserves equal opportunities and respect. The world is a better place this way. Martin Luther King Jr. will never be forgotten.

NFL Playoff Graph

This graph is pretty self explanatory and very easy to comprehend. I like it because if your a football fan, like me, you could look at this graph any time throughout the season after a win or loss and determine you teams percentage of making the playoffs.

Mean Girls Reflection

Mean Girls is a comedy movie that shows relationships in high school. It focuses on the way girls treat other girls. I think that it is a good representation that shows girls growing up going from being mean to each other to belonging to a great community. Relationships are well demonstrated throughout this film including friends, parents, teachers, etc. Everyone learned from their mistakes which led to having a positive mindset which made them all kind to one another. I think that this is a funny film to watch and learn from. It is a typical high school movie that teenagers would most likely enjoy.

Poor Officiating in the Lions game

In Sundays lost to the Cowboys the lions in my eyes were cheated.  I say this because on the Cowboys final drive that won the game the Lions defensive ends were being held the whole drive but nothing was called.  And when Tony Romo was getting ready to throw the ball on the game winning touchdown the Lions defensive end got held right in front of the Ref and he didn't call anything.  There was also a pass interference on the cowboys, now the Refs originally made the call but then picked up the flag and waved the penalty.  It was clear as day pass interference but after Dez Bryant the wide receiver from the cowboys ran onto the field trying to make a case with the Refs.  The Refs later came forward and said that the call should have stud.  It was also a rumor that the head Ref was parting with the team on a bus.

Fifthy thrirty eight is a very interesting website, it has a lot of interesting graphs about many different topics. I went to this site and chose the graph about Messi  because I think it is really intresting. the graph shows at which spot does Messi scores the most goals, which spot does save attemps occurs and which spots does he totally miss. the chart explains how Messi is better than Maradona. the graph support my believe, this topic is always talked about between soccer fans and some people think that Maradona is better than Messi and others think the opposite. this chart proves that the poeple that thinks that Messi is better are right because it shows that Messi scored goals outside the rectangle but Maradona never scored a goal outside the rectangle. the article talks about how Messi is better than Maradona but not better than Pele, I disagree, I think that Messi is better than Pele because Pele have 5 spots that he scored a goal in but Messi has more than 15 spots that he can score a goal in. I think the graph is better than words because it is more precise about where can the soccer players can score a goal and where they totally miss.

Visual Data: How Predictable is U.S Weather?

I chose the chart showing the accuracy of weather predicting. I find this graph interesting because it's something I never thought about. It is a clear representation of the United States showing the weather predictability of each state. Rapid City, South Dakota is the least predictable whereas, Honolulu, Hawaii is the most predictable. These are facts I was never aware of. It's cool to see where Michigan is on the scale. I agree with the placement since I don't think it's very predictable. This graph communicates information in a way that numbers and tables can't because it lays out a full representation of the U.S using a color scale of the predictability. This method provides more of a visual for people that like to see everything.

Biased Refs in NFL

If you watched last Sundays NFL playoff game of the Lions vs. The Cowboys you know that there are biased refs in the NFL. There were many examples of this throughout Sundays game. Many holding calls were not made throughout the whole game and most noticeably on Dallas's last play in the redzone, allowing Tony Romo an absurd amount of time in the pocket to find an open receiver.

This was probably the most recognized biased call of the game. Initially the refs called pass interference but after "further review" of the play the refs picked up the flag and it was fourth down. That oblivious call ended the game for the Lions and the next drive Dallas scored, and made the final score 24-20.
